About Pierre Vaux
Pierre Vaux umbrella and parasol website is set against a background of a French family business which started its success story 100 years ago.
Monsieur Pierre VAUX began his own company, creating and selling umbrellas in Saint-Claude in 1920. He became very prosperous at that time as one of the first French umbrella makers. After his tragic death in 1932, his late wife took over the business, allowing it to live on.
It was in 1948, after the Second World War, that his young son René Pierre VAUX gave a new dimension to the family business by establishing a dedicated 250 sqm workshop for the local production of umbrellas in Saint-Claude’s main street. The creation and production kick-off was with only 3 employees.
The family company grew progressively, benefiting from its good reputation and fame for quality and innovation. In 1976 the workshop was extended to 1000 sqm, and in 1989 it moved to a permanently built workplace in Saint-Claude’s artisanal area 2700 sqm. More than 60 employees worked to deliver the best quality umbrellas.
Year after year the family business expanded. In 1995, René Pierre VAUX obtained exclusive high-end brand licenses to produce and sell unique umbrellas. The most symbolic example of partnership is the collaboration with the world-renowned brand Longchamp.
In parallel to such achievement, the family company launched in the 2000’s the first creation line of Parasols. In fact, Queen Elizabeth’s daughter-in-law, Camilla Parker Bowles, used such unique parasols during her official excursions and in front of the world’s TV cameras, as in the photo taken in Egypt with Prince Charles.
Today, René Pierre VAUX is a retired man living peacefully in Saint-Claude, celebrating his 91st birthday in January 2017. His younger son Dominique VAUX has been handling the heritage of the company for several years together with his wife Dora. Thus the family spirit of the company is in good hands, mixing experience and creativity, and at the same time adapting continuously to the globalization. Pierre Vaux Umbrellas continues to create umbrellas and parasols the company has 20 employees and distributes its product at Saint-Claude, currently selling in more than 16 countries.
